The elastic clause of the US Constitution allows the government to stretch the ideas in the Constitution. Its purpose is to make sure Congress has the authority needed to act above the powers the Constitution gives it. It is elastic because it allows Congress to be flexible while still following the Constitution. So, it gives Congress more power than the Constitution says. One example of this clause is that the government has the right to collect taxes from its citizens. However, the Constituion does not say where the money should be kept. This is where the elastic clause comes in, Congress has the power to decide where the money shall be kept. I believe the U.S. Constitution should be followed to a point but that Congress should have the authority to judge where the Constituion should not be followed because it was not written in current times. I do not think the Constitution should be open to interpretation, I do however believe that it should be updated with current laws that reflect the world we are currently living in.
